1st week in the field

First little bit in the field and a pretty good step forward. Soo my companion is from the Philippines and speaks Tagalog! I thought I was not going to make any progress in the language here in Washington/Oregon but it looks like I might have a chance. Not only that but he his home is in my mission boandries and he knows my mission president. Oh and he graduated college and studied culinary so he can cook. But I guess miracles like this happen to me often. I am already owe President White big time for arranging this and letting it happen.

I'm getting many new things I wasn't expecting on my mission. I have a phone, and I'm driving a car, I have more fun with that car than the phone. We need that car to drive through all the farmland, the people are mostly rednecks. I am serving in Pendleton Oregon and it's been tricky to get situated. We are over the McKay Creek Ward and the Pendleton YSA. We share the YSA with another pair of elders because the towns are spread out, and we shuttle up to get to the YSA building for church. We were white-washed in with another pair of elders, which means we are all new to the area. Usually the past elders would leave some kind of post it notes on what the area is like but we could not find them. It wasn't until yesterday when we found out where they were, and apparently the ward feeds us dinner? I'm excited for that. So we have had not too many appointments and just knocking on doors. People are mostly nice, I've seen to have met a lot more Priest and Jehovah's Witnesses lately, but everyone that is interested has already had LDS contact before. There are some amazing members in our area.

Investigators

Gregnisha; She is in the YSA area, she's a super funny black lady and has great faith but she works during church and has big problems with word of wisdom. We're encouraging her to apply for a new job.

Rogina; A older lader; a family in the ward is helping her big time and leading the lessons. She came to church yesterday for the first time and we had a gospel class. They were asking deep questions about Adam and Eve and they tried to pullup a scripture in D and C. But, she starting crying because she had never heard of that book before, so we stepped back and helped her out. She is super sweet.

We also do lots of service, and read the book of mormon with recent converts

I would tell you more about others but we are still figuring it all out.

Thanks

Elder Soulier

November 14

Good evening :) Crazy crazy week as always.  Not sure where to start and where to end. Unfortunately Mark's baptism had to be postponed.  He is still coming to church and loves learning and wants to get baptized.  A concern came up and his baptism needed to be postponed.  We also passed him to the elders to continue to get ready for his baptism.  I'll keep you posted.   Eline is doing so fantastically well.  She accepted the word of wisdom no problem and continues to prepare for baptism on December 11th!  She is very prepared. Our other prepared favorite investigator, Jane Susan.  Pretty sure I already told you all about her.  Hopefully.  Her sister and niece recently got baptized in Gorelston (by Norwich) and told Jane about how they love the church, so now Jane wants to learn.  She was a referral from the Stratford ward.  She is so prepared it is so great teaching her.  Appointments last precisely 45...

July and warming up

July 19 HELLO!!!! Good to hear from all of you!  I know I say this every time. But time is going so fast. Next week will be transfers. I do not want to lose my companion. We need to stay together. You can pray for that. Just kidding. We will se what next week brings! P day will be on Tuesday again so emails will be late. This week was a good week!! I'm trying to remember everything that happened. It's all such a blur. Oh Nish!!! Our lovely investigator from India. She wow. She is all over the place. Every day (no every hour) Sister Guimaraes and I go back and forth of whether she I'll make her date for July 30th or not. We just don't know what to think. She has refused to give up coffee at all in the past. This week we committed her to no coffee and she did it! In fact in our lesson on Saturday she said she could give up coffee forever!! (Except for this coffee dessert but we will work it out). What a drastic change this was. All because she is praying and reading ev...
