A visit to the London Temple |
he will never need to work on Sunday! But he did not tell us he was
switching jobs until this week...and his work is Monday to Saturday.
And he can't get it off. And his baptism is on Saturday. Oh Peter. Wow
what are we going to do. And to add another stressful thing to the
table, Peter left his phone at work and we had no access to contact
him. Sunday morning we went to his apartment and pounded on his door,
but no answer. We eventually have to go to church and he wasn't there.
That was really scary. But he came for the second hour and we actually
saw him! We talked for a minute but then he ran out because he had to
go to his friends christening. We were scheduled to meet him later
that day, but he still didn't have his phone on him so the appointment
could not be confirmed. Well we weren't able to come until about 9
that night and again pounded on his door. No answer from Peter. Next
night again we pounded on his door. No answer. Next day, STILL no
answer. By Wednesday we were more than a little stressed. The week
before the baptism is rather intense on its own, but especially if we
can't even get ahold of the person getting baptized!! Sister Cummings
and I prayed so hard to get ahold of Peter. Every prayer went to
contacting him. And then finally Wednesday night came. Wednesday night
we went back to his apartment because that is the only way we could
reach him. I remember the walk to his apartment may have been silent
but there is no way our minds were. I doubt either of us stopped
praying for an instant. Praying that we would be able to find Peter,
praying that he could get work off, praying that he would be able to
be baptized this week. Just praying!! We said one final prayer and
knocked on his door. No answer. We knocked again. No answer. And then
after what felt like ages, Peter finally answered the door. Ah Peter!
Well we were able to sit him down and figure out the baptism this
weekend. His boss is refusing to let him miss work that day. After a
rather stressful hour we finally got it figured out with Peter and the
Ward. Peter will now be baptized on Sunday and most likely confirmed
two weeks later in sacrament meeting (idk why converts aren't allowed
to be confirmed the same day as baptism, some mission rule) so
unfortunately the baptism will not take place on the 26, but it should
go through on the 27th. Easter Sunday! Which will be really nice. I'll
keep you posted.
Marc - as much as we would like him to be baptized this weekend, it's
just not going to work this fast. He is too busy to meet with us 4
times a week (understandable) and with no religious background it
takes him a while to grasp gospel concepts. But his desire is really
good, he just says he doesn't have an answer yet if the church is true
and we are still helping him to realize why it's important to be in
God's church. The thing I have learned with this, is that you really
can't will a testimony into someone. Instead it is working with the
person and where they are at on the path. As much as we would like
them to jump up, it's just not possible. But his baptismal date is
rescheduled to April 10th. And General conference will be great for
him before.
So although some baptisms may be moved, that is okay! This is the
Lords work and He is running things so I am not too worried. We are
all certainly grateful for prayers though :).
Alan will not be able to be taught by us sister missionaries anymore
because of certain reason and we have passed him on to the elders. He
is still on date though and doing really well! We just really need to
find a French speaker to translate the lessons. Google translate does
not work.
Juliet!!! Oh I love her. Now she just needs to keep her commitment of
reading the Book of Mormon. But we taught her and her three kids the
plan of salvation on Wednesday. It was really neat :). She has a 13
year old daughter and a boy and girl twin at 9. The LDS church would
be great for them. The only problem is they are big on the Catholic
Church so it'll be tricky to get them to church. They haven't come
because they didn't want to miss their Easter service on Sunday. Well
we have an Easter service too just saying. We will get them though!
(Also we met another African family!! Mom, dad, and three kids. Not on
date yet but I'll keep you posted and once again, big Catholics. When
we asked them to pray at the end they all said the Lord's Prayer
together. So we will talk about that later. But once again, the gospel
would be so good for them!!)
We couldn't get to appointments the other day because the tube station
was on strike. Now I get a taste of what Italy is like.
LOVE AND MISS YOU ALL
Sister Soulier
