Missionary things that relate to England at this present time.
The Nigerian Irish family is doing okay. Apparently things are very busy for them because they are moving in. Not good. So we only get to see them once a week. And they haven't come to church yet. Meh. But the great thing about missionaries is that we don't give up too easily. So we will keep them in our thoughts and prayers and hopefully they will make progression eventually!
Jewels! I LOVE HER! She is just doing wonderfully. We gave her Moroni 10 to read and she came back with v32 being her favorite because she said she knows that with Christ she can continue to improve. And then she went on to say how it applied to her life. Wow I love her. It is the most wonderful thing ever in the entire world when an investigator not only reads the Book of Mormon, but understands it AND applies it. (Cue Hercules "Thank his luuuuucky stars"). but mostly thank Heavenly Father. Because everything is from Him after all. We love Jewels a lot. Only problem is her phobia of going outside. She can't go outside. For eight years she stayed in the same house--not once going outside. Crazy. But she is doing a lot better. But hopefully with her baptism date scheduled for September 17th, it can help push her past it! PRAY PRAY PRAY for her!!!
Hahaha oh man I don't think I have told you about Fred before. I might've a while ago but I doubt you remember. Fred is 80 years old. He is a grandfather of one of our investigators (Lisa). He is the funniest man you will ever meet. He always points his finger at us and says, "you lot" in a threatening tone and then goes on to say how he really likes the Mormons. Sweet. He is actually on date to be baptized September 10th. At first he didn't want to be baptized cuz he thought it was too late, but I told the story of Grandpa Freed and all was fixed. That is a very useful story. Fred keeps asking how the Bishop will be able to dunk him under the water. Or if the water will be warm enough. Hahah we will take care of it. Oh and he just got a house phone and it rings SO LOUD. I mean Grandpa Frost loud. That thing goes off and you almost hit the ceiling with your head because you jump so high. Pretty sure we can hear it from out flat 6 blocks away. He is a funny one. Good news--we had one of our personal favorite couples of the ward come over and help us teach Fred. (Brother and Sister Horrigan) We taught him word of wisdom. And at the beginning Fred said, "I am never, never, NEVER giving up tea!!" (He drinks 6 cups in the morning. I didn't even know that was possible). But at the end of the lesson, Fred had agreed to give it up and right now is working on a plan to replace his river of black tea he consumes every morning. Ah the Spirit is WONDERFUL!! And we might be able to baptize an 80 year old man. Never thought I would have that opportunity. Brother Horrigan told Fred during the lesson that he was lucky that he only had to be good for a few more years after baptism. Yes that is the point we would like to get across this lesson.
And lastly, the reason for the title of my message. Saturday night we stopped by a couple of potential investigators and ran into a group of kids raging from 4-11 years old. One of them sheepishly stopped us and tentatively asked us what our badges were. We gladly told them. We said we were messengers from God. They asked us what out message was. We said, that you are a child of God and families are from God! Literally they all got huge smiles and some jumped up and down in excitement. Then the questions began rolling in. One of them I thought was super powerful. A 9 year old girl asked, "Do your cousins ever say you are weird for believing in God?" (Oh straight to the heart). "No, but do yours?" The little girl looked thoughtfully, "yeah. But I am going to keep believing in Him." I just said, "YA! You go! Do it." We tried to leave them and they all cried, "How are we going to remember you??" So we gave them some mormon.org cards which they requested we write out names on and our ages and the ages of our siblings (not really sure why that last part was there. I think it was the 5 year olds suggestion). (hopefully their parents don't freak out when the kids tell them about us). Then before we could leave they gave us both handfuls of flowers.
Yes this experience definitely made our week. :) Now if only everyone could be like the little ones! I can't imagine any adults coming with such love and simplicity. Yet another reasons, to "behold the little ones".
Alrighty talk to you next week :)
LOVE AND MISS YOU!
