Hello everyone!!!!
Bishop Bleckley came and took sister Whitehouse
and me out to lunch win his family!! They were so great and so fun to be with. His
two little girls were darling. They each had on name tags
signifying they would be a missionary one day. He was very very kind
to take us out.
Man this. This week. It's been a blessed week. Many miracles that we
have been able to witness.
First off, FRED!! Wow he is a champ. He is doing so well. He hasn't
smoked in a week and a half and has had NO zero zilch nada tea for 2
whole days!!! He used to have 7 every morning so this is major
progression people. So proud of him we can hardly stand it. And he
came to church!!!! Ahhhhhh! Well sister Whitehouse and I walked over
to his home early Sunday morning and knocked on his door (trying to
avoid the hundreds of flies swirling everywhere). He said he was still
waiting for his nurse (his nurse comes every morning and injects him
because he is diabetic) but would come to church as soon as he could.
We bid him farewell and a prayer in our hearts that his nurse would
come soon. What to our surprise after 15 mins of us sitting down, Fred
comes crossing the street with his white cane flashing in the
sunlight!! He said, "hello ladies, I had Lisa (his granddaughter)
inject me because I am NOT missing church." (Well our prayer in our
hearts promptly changed from his nurse coming earlier to Fred not
collapsing due to the wrong injection). Good news, he did not
collapse! And he really enjoyed church. After the meeting he was
talking to a few members and saw me and hustled over in his elderly
way and said, "Sister, what time is my baptism on the 24th? I want to
invite people!" Okay Fred. You can do that. And he feels and is
starting to recognize the spirit. He commented on the fact that he
felt something different in church and it is helping him to stop
drinking tea. I wish you could all meet him. He would get right up in
your face and with his pointing curled finger say, "giving up tea was
the hardest thing I had ever done but somehow these ladies here
convinced me to do it. I am going to be one of your brethren one day.
You are such happy people, I want to be happy! You must have something
good." Pretty sure he would say something to that extent. He is doing
great. :)
Anna and Dino!!!!! Oh goodness I am so excited about these people.
Sister Whitehouse and I already placed bets. Dino will be a bishop one
day. They are gonna be a BIG mormon family. (Oh and it is not
pronounced like Dino-saur. It's pronounced Deno. It's Portuguese). I
mentioned Anna briefly in my email last week but didn't go into much
detail because I wasn't sure if it would go anywhere. I love Anna so
much. She is in her 50's and is from Portugual. We met her last week.
We were on the street waiting for a potential investigator to show up
(which he didn't). BUT we got to meet Anna!! She was standing behind
us and we said hi. She said, "Hello! How are you?" Wow that was an
unexpected response. I tried to stumble pit a few words in Portuguese.
Really it is rather pathetic because I have had two Brazilian
companions and know very little of that language. Probably need moms
Italian. But turns out Anna talked to us so much because she thought
she already knows us. And she still feels like she knows us. She does
seem really familiar. I don't know if we all just have familiar faces,
if we saw each other in the street randomly, or if we knew each other
before. I don't know but there is some connection there that does not
happen every day. AND her sister happens to be a member already. And
her mom who has passed away was apparently baptized in the temple.
Anna has no idea what that means, but wow we do!! Anna doesn't have a
church but she does believe in God. Well the next couple of days we
couldn't get ahold of her and then she called US on Sunday. She said
she woke up and felt like she needed to call us. Thank you Heavenly
Father. It's amazing how He always pushes the work forward. We got to
see her on Tuesday. And let me tell you, IT WAS SO GOOD!! Her back
grades is absolutely gorgeous. It is basically the garden of Eden with
all the plants and archway and summer home and greenhouse and just
wow. She was lovely and kept offering us a ton of ice cream and so
much juice we could hardly move after. She talked fast enough to
compete with Sarah and was so happy to be with us. She said we could
meet her husband (all of her kids had moved out) but that he was
rarely home. Than what to our surprise, but Dino walked in right in
the middle of the lesson!! He waltzed over in sunglasses and stuck out
his hand in greeting. I have to admit I was so nervous. What if he did
not want us there? Then what can we do? I don't know. Good thing the
opposite happened!! He is so great. Very intelligent and friendly. He
does not like other churches and feels they have really strayed from
God. He doesn't k ow if here is a right religion out there. Doesn't
like Catholic, jehovah witness, etc but has never looked into the
Mormon church. BUT HE IS INTERESTED! And they already have a Book of
Mormon that their cousin gave them and wrote heir testimony in the
front cover. I mean how beautiful is this. And we just met her on the
street because we were in the right time at the right place!!!! They
are so invested in learning there is no way they are not getting out
of this without being baptized. Dino will be bishop one day. I
prophesy. Well I can't really. But they will be great. We committed
them to read the introduction page and they came back with, who are
the Lamanites? Were they there before Columbus? And all of these
things. We got to teach lesson 1 (restoration of the gospel and Joseph
smith) it was so great teaching them. While teaching the last thing we
wanted to do was make it sound routine. We wanted it personal and
filled with testimony. These people had been searching for such a long
time. And they catch on very quickly. Dino understood the apostasy to
a great extent. Even why the reformation is important.
One of my favorite parts is when sister Whitehouse gave the first
vision and testified why it meant so much to her. This event means so
much for the entire world. It affected the salvation of millions of
people, more yet to come! We are so blessed to live in a dispensation.
Families can live together, we can be completely clean, we know why
and how we progress, everything! This time is such a blessed time to
live in. Anna looked so happy. I don't know what it was in particular
that she liked, but she was so happy.
And they both came to church on Sunday.
Yayayyayayya.
Really really hope they liked it. It was their very first time in a
Mormon church and you always want everything to be so good for them.
Have all the members come up and the simplest testimony filled message
given and it never is. So much Mormon jargon in our religion. But
somehow they still feel it. They still enjoy it. I don't know how,
well I do know how. This is the church of God. Why else would they
feel happy or good about something they don't understand? There is no
logical explanation.
Also side not. Anna and Dino texted us saying they really enjoyed
church and are looking forward to seeing us throughout the week AND at
church next week. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BEST. DAY. EVER. So happy for
them I can't stand it.
Only one little problem. They don't keep the word of wisdom. And it is
a little scary to teach them. I don't know why I am so nervous. But I
am. We have only taught lesson 1. Should we teach them about the plan
of salvation next or word of wisdom? I don't k ow! Yes repentance is
key but they need tolerance more maybe? Okay I am just mainly scared
to lose them. Prayers would be appreciated. Oh and hey said they would
be willi to be baptized yet but we haven't set a date yet because of
the whole word of wisdom thing.
Jewels--haven't been able to see her because of all of her doctor
appointments. We are seeing her tonight. Nothing new she just wants to
read all of the general conference talks it's fine. Wow our
investigators are doing so nicely. They keep asking for return
appointments. So wonderful we don't have to do any convincing.
That's about it for now. See things are going so wonderfully. Why oh
why must transfers happen. Everyone pray that we will stay together.
Fred and jewels are praying. Maybe we can stay. Ah who knows. But
transfers are next week so I will email on Tuesday. 😢. I don't want
to leave.
Love you all!!
